After Jesy Nelson’s new video “Boyz,” followers had been shocked to see her with a darker complexion than Black rapper Nicki Minaj and accused her of blackfishing.
Jesy says she isn’t blackfishing.
“The entire time I used to be in Little Combine I by no means acquired any of that,” she advised Vulture.
She continued: “After which I got here out of [the band] and folks rapidly had been saying it. I wasn’t on social media round that point, so I let my workforce [deal with it], as a result of that was after I’d simply left. However I imply, like, I like Black tradition. I like Black music. That is all I do know; it is what I grew up on. I am very conscious that I am a white British lady; I’ve by no means stated that I wasn’t.”
She added, “For those who have a look at me on X Issue with my large curly hair, I used to be sporting trainers and combats — that is who I’m as an artist and as Jesy. Now I am out of Little Combine, I’ve gone again to being who I’m.”
