I’m right here to sound the alarm. The world should get up. We’re on the sting of an abyss, and shifting within the improper route. Our world has by no means been extra threatened or extra divided. We face the best cascade of crises in our lifetimes. The Covid-19 pandemic has supersized obtrusive inequalities. The local weather disaster is pummeling the planet, upheaval from Afghanistan to Ethiopia to Yemen and past. A thwarted peace. A surge of distrust and misinformation is polarizing individuals and paralyzing societies. Human rights are within the fires and science is beneath assault, and the financial lifelines for probably the most weak are coming too little and too late, if they arrive in any respect. Solidarity is lacking in motion simply once we want it most. Excellencies, we face a second of reality. Now could be the time to ship. Now could be the time to revive belief, and now could be the time to encourage hope. And I do have hope — the issues now we have created are issues we are able to remedy. Humanity has proven that we’re able to nice issues once we work collectively, and that’s the raison d’être of our United Nations.
